ID3 metadata is the key to a well organized music library. Without any tag information, your audio files will appear as unknown songs in any playlist, even if the files have proper names. Editing the ID3 tag of each file is a tedious chore, but with TuneUp, it takes only one click to assign relevant information to any number of audio files. It can retrieve song, album and artist names from the Internet, as well as cover art images and lyrics. As a result, your songs will appear with proper names and cover images and all duplicates will be removed.

TuneUp is available for Windows and Mac OS X and you can try it for free, on a limited number of audio files. It can be installed in less than a minute, without any effort. The application does not ask for any additional tools or services and it does not use too much memory or processing power.

Running TuneUp will automatically launch Windows Media Player or iTunes, depending on your preferences. By default, the application's user interface is docked to the right side of your media player's interface, but you can detach it if you want to. The application also allows you to choose which media player it should attach itself to.

The application's interface is divided into several sections, which are accessible via navigation tabs. Once it scans your audio files, the application will display the overall state of your music collection on a dashboard. You will see how many songs are in order, how many need to be fixed and so on.

The actual files that need to be fixed are listed on the Results tab. All you have to do is select one or more files and click a button to start fixing them. Everything is done automatically, from retrieving information to assigning it to audio files, even if the ID3 tags are completely blank. TuneUp uses an acoustic fingerprint recognition system to identify your files. In other words, the application "listens" to your songs, to determine what information it should retrieve.

Pros

TuneUp can retrieve ID3 tag information for an entire music collection automatically. It can fix song, album and artist names, add cover art images and eliminate duplicates. Due to its acoustic fingerprint recognition feature, it can retrieve information for any audio files, even if their ID3 tags are blank.

Cons

You can process a maximum of 100 files with the trial version. If you are greeted by a chaotic playlist when you run Windows Media Player or iTunes, you can fix everything in a moment's notice with TuneUp.
